BREAKING NEWS: ‘Repentant’ Bandits Ambush Nigerian Soldiers, Kill Eight in Kaduna

Eight Nigerian soldiers have reportedly been killed in a deadly ambush in Kaduna State by a group described as “repentant” bandits, according to family sources and local reports.

According to Sahara Reporters, a relative of one of the soldiers confirmed the incident in a WhatsApp message, saying his brother was among those killed. He added that families are still waiting for official confirmation from the Nigerian Army.

Early reports indicate that the soldiers encountered the armed group while the bandits were allegedly moving to attack communities along the Kaduna River axis, between Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas.

The encounter turned deadly, leaving one officer and seven other soldiers dead. A senior military officer was also reportedly injured in a similar earlier attack by the same group and is currently receiving treatment.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the government’s approach of engaging “repentant” bandits through dialogue, rehabilitation, and reintegration programmes. Critics say the policy is not working and may be putting both security forces and civilians at greater risk.
