Kaduna, Nigeria – The Kaduna State Police Command has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of a woman accused of child theft in Maraban Jos, describing the incident as a barbaric act of mob justice and a blatant disregard for the rule of law.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed that the woman had initially been rescued from an enraged mob by police officers and placed in protective custody at a police station pending further investigation into the allegations against her.
According to the police, the situation later took a tragic turn when a large crowd reportedly stormed the station, overpowered officers on duty, and forcibly removed the suspect from lawful custody.
The mob subsequently killed the woman and set her body ablaze in a shocking display of violence.
The Command described the incident as criminal, inhumane, and unacceptable, emphasizing that no individual or group has the authority to administer justice outside the framework of the law.
"The actions of the mob constitute a serious violation of the law and an attack on the criminal justice system," the statement noted.
The police further revealed that several suspects have already been arrested in connection with the attack, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the incident. Authorities confirmed that a comprehensive investigation has been launched and assured the public that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, issued a stern warning against acts of jungle justice, mob violence, and attacks on police personnel and facilities. He urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspected criminal activities to relevant security agencies for proper investigation and legal action.
The Kaduna State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and ensuring that justice is served in accordance with due process and the rule of law.
