"Ayra Starr had alot of sponsors when I signed her. There was a space for a teenage afrobeats superstar that we wanted to make sure becomes global in no time. And immediately I saw Ayra Starr's freestyles on Instagram, I knew she was the one.
I reached out to one of these Gen-z baddîes that I like to follow on Instagram. I went into her DM and I was like: ”Do you have any students in your university that can sing.” And she sent me a couple of upcoming artistes who were singing on Instagram. Ayra Starr was one of them. So I decided to start monitoring them to see who was consistent. Ayra Starr was the was the only one amongst all of them that was freestyling and uploading every single day. I liked her because she was singing about this Gen-Z lifestyle experience and was also consistent. No artiste was doing that at the time. So I finally decided that she was the one and reached out to her and I was like: ”Hey, this is Don Jazzy. How are you?” I knew she might not believe it was me so I saw another video she made with her brother and DMed him as well. And after a couple of hours she responded and the rest was history." ~ Don Jazzy
